Microsoft Excel For Beginner
9 – 10 December 2025
Program Overview
The Microsoft Excel for Beginner workshop was successfully held on 14–15 May 2026 at the vibrant and modern ThinkHub, i-City Shah Alam. Facilitated by the patient and experienced trainer, Mr. Roy Nicholas, this two-day foundational programme was designed to turn “Excel anxiety” into confidence for a diverse group of administrative staff, fresh graduates, and business owners.
In today’s digital workplace, Excel is no longer just a “bonus” skill it is an essential tool for efficiency. This course focused on stripping away the complexity of spreadsheets and replacing it with a solid, step-by-step foundation. Participants were guided from the absolute basics of the Excel interface to the point where they could comfortably manage data, perform calculations, and create professional-looking charts. The goal was simple: to ensure that every participant left with the ability to handle day-to-day data tasks with speed and accuracy.
Key Learning Outcomes
By the end of the workshop, participants were able to:
- Navigate the Excel interface with ease, understanding workbooks, worksheets, and ribbon tools.
- Master data entry and formatting, ensuring their spreadsheets are organized, professional, and easy to read.
- Apply essential formulas and functions, including SUM, AVERAGE, and the powerful IF function for basic logical analysis.
- Organize large datasets efficiently using sorting, filtering, and freeze-pane techniques.
- Create impactful data visualizations, turning raw numbers into clear bar, line, and pie charts.
- Boost productivity by utilizing essential keyboard shortcuts and absolute vs. relative cell referencing.
Programme Experience
Held at the tech-savvy environment of ThinkHub, the workshop atmosphere was one of encouragement and “hands-on” discovery.
Day 1 focused on Excel Fundamentals. Mr. Roy Nicholas broke down the “fear of the spreadsheet” by showing participants how to customize their workspace and handle data entry like a pro. A significant portion of the day was spent on Data Handling, where attendees learned the “magic” of formatting learning that a well-formatted report is just as important as the data it contains. From freezing panes to setting print areas, participants practiced making their data “report-ready.”
Day 2 moved into the “engine room” of Excel: Essential Formulas & Charts. The energy in the room was high as participants successfully wrote their first logical functions and mathematical formulas. There were many “Aha!” moments as attendees realized how much time they could save using cell referencing and basic text functions like CONCATENATE. The session concluded with a creative module on Data Visualization, where participants transformed their practice data into colorful, easy-to-understand charts. Each participant left ThinkHub not just with a certificate, but with a new “superpower” to tackle their workplace challenges with confidence.
