Decisions That Demand Courage Critical Thinking & Strategic Problem Solving
Program Overview
The Decisions That Demand Courage: Critical Thinking & Strategic Problem Solving programme was successfully held on 15–16 April 2026 at the prestigious Kelab Golf Perkhidmatan Awam Malaysia (KGPA), Bukit Kiara. Facilitated by the esteemed Dr. Hartini, this two-day intensive workshop brought together senior managers, department heads, and branch leaders to tackle one of the most significant challenges in leadership: making high-stakes decisions in the face of uncertainty.
The programme was built on the premise that leadership decisions are rarely about finding a “perfect” answer, but rather about the courage to act with limited information and varying perspectives. Participants explored advanced critical thinking frameworks designed to navigate complex, cross-functional, and cross-branch issues. The focus remained on bridging the gap between operational reactive thinking and intentional, strategic decision-making that moves the entire organisation forward.
Key Learning Outcomes
- Think with clarity when faced with complex or ambiguous organizational problems.
- Identify root causes rather than merely addressing surface-level symptoms.
- Neutralize cognitive biases and emotional assumptions that often cloud professional judgement.
- Generate practical solutions by reframing problems and considering diverse branch perspectives.
- Communicate decisions with confidence, especially when managing disagreements or cross-functional misalignment.
- Execute with accountability, turning high-level decisions into clear, actionable progress.
Programme Experience
Set against the professional backdrop of KGPA, the learning experience was highly collaborative, encouraging senior leaders to share real-world challenges and engage in structured problem-solving exercises.
Day 1 focused on Thinking Clearly & Confidently. Dr. Hartini guided participants through the shift from operational to leadership thinking, emphasizing how to distinguish facts from emotions. Leaders practiced “Reframing Problems” to avoid the common pitfalls of “outside-the-box” thinking that often fails in practical application. By the end of the day, participants were equipped to align different branch views and isolate the true root causes of persistent issues.
Day 2 transitioned into Deciding, Aligning & Taking Action. The modules pushed participants to break down complex risks and compare solution options with a “risk-aware” mindset. A powerful session on Speaking Up with Confidence addressed why leaders often hesitate to decide and provided tools for clear, assertive communication.
The programme concluded with a focus on Ownership and Accountability, where leaders developed action plans to ensure their decisions are monitored and followed through effectively. Participants left Bukit Kiara not just with new tools, but with the renewed courage to lead their teams through the most demanding organizational challenges.
